1. 階段性品質

程介南事件弄得民建聯相當狼狽. 民建聯在29日不
甚負責地宣佈, 將程在現行法規不得退選的限制下的參選
人資格問題, 現階段, 交給選民決定.

"現階段"一語可圈可點, 似留有迴轉餘地.

也許在一個視道德如鄙的社會裏, 即使在涉及公信力的
層面, 要求個人或政黨立大志, 是相當不識時務的天方夜
譚.

所幸世上還有天良未泯這回事. 民建聯主席曾鈺成在
31日露了口風, 表示如果法規允許, 民建聯會考慮換將,
間接承認現階段交給選民決定的決定, 有欠穩當.

不過現階段最難堪的是打拼中的民建聯同志們, 他們進
退兩難, 眼看九月十日選舉期限將至, 但是不僅不能致力
擴展疆域, 還要轉而搶救破壞, 但是對外界的指責無言以
對, 只能打落牙齒和血吞, 跟著一個很壞的決定, 向下沉
淪.

因為決策層看不出對道德的要求或有高低, 對公信力的
存歿卻沒有階段的問題.

1. Situational Quality?

The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB) wants Gary
Cheng Kai-Nan to stay in Legco if he is to be elected.

On August 29, the DAB announced that Cheng would not resign from Legco even
if he won the seat, that at the present stage it's voters' decision for his
suitability as a public servant.

What the DAB did is repeatedly avoiding confronting to the core allegation,
tolerating impropriety, showing less committed to society, taking
responsibility selectively, and  having a less vision. The DAB chose to win
a battle but to lose a war, and put voters to be responsible.

Perhaps in a world deems morality unfashionable, it is too much to ask an
individual or a political party to think big, even in public sphere.

Fortunately, conscience still plays a role at the bottom line.

DAB Chairman Mr. Tsang Yuk-Shing disclosed, on August 30, if regulation
permitted, DAB would consider replacement. Indirectly he admitted the
decision of referring to voters was inappropriate.

At the present stage, Mr. Tsang's lip service does not save DAB members much
from embarrassment. They have been trapped in a difficult situation. In
stead of making advancement, they have to spend valuable commodity of time
in making remedy, remain speechless, and fall with a bad decision, with
remorse.

It is because the decision-makers fail to recognize public trust a timeless
quality.
