  Phase matching is the k-space conservation which must be
  satisfied at the interface where the tranformation of two
  different electromagnetic waves occurs.

  For instance, while a light wave propagates (with a fixed k)
  in the forward direction of an optical fiber and meets a Bragg
  grating, a k-space conservation might exhibit between a forward mode (k),
  backward mode (-k), and the grating "K". If it happens, we say
  the phase matching condition is satisfied, and a corresponding
  light with a fixed -k will propagate in the backward direction of
  the optical fiber.
