我剛剛看了一下你說的部分.
Jackson 提示說用 Rodrigues' formula. 我是覺得有點複雜化.

我的做法:
Generating function
1 / sqrt(1-2xt+t^2) = Sum_{n=0}^{\infty} t^n P_n(x)
where t<1

右邊積分 x: 0 -> 1:
得到
Sum_{n=0}^{\infty} t^n  \int_0^1 dx P_n(x)

左邊積分 x: 0 -> 1:
得到
 -[ 1-t - sqrt(1+t^2)] / t

對 sqrt(1+t^2) 做 Taylor expansion around t = 0.


然後比較兩邊 t^n 的係數.
得到.
\int_0^1 dx P_n(x)
= 1           if n=0
= 0           if n \in even - {0}
= 課本公式    if n is odd
