是root mean square，不是root mean，中文稱方均根
真有趣，在英文板會看到斷詞斷錯的問題，這裡居然也會看到。

簡單地說，
                             2    2          2
root mean square = sqrt( ( x  + x  + ... + x   ) / n )
                            1    2          n

arithmetic mean = ( x + x + ... + x  ) / n
                     1   2         n

你在上面wiki的條目會看到清楚的公式。
至於方均根的意義，和算術平均有何不同，這就比較深奧了 @@
