It is possible. The energy from the magnetic fields from the galactic
center is converted in the sun to electromagnetic radiation or
luminosity and to new mass. If you start by assuming there is no
creation of new mass and all the magnetic fields energy is going to
luminosity you can get an estimate of the strength of the magnetic
field. This will give magnetic fields smaller then the measure
magnetic fields. The difference between the measured magnetic fields
(from Ulysses) and the magnetic field strengh for the luminosity can
give the magnetic field strength for creation of new mass and the
amount of new mass created in the sun.
