   Epigastira may be caused by many diseases and factors. From the above statement
, I personally regarded it as either stress ulcer or just dyspepsia. If your
boyfriend visited a academic-based hospital, I thought that the management and
suggestion of the doctor is enough. As you stated, if the pain persisted and 
tarry stool(black-stool) was noted the panendoscopic intervention is necessary.
