Dear members of our Medical Center and alumni,
 
It has been almost eight months since I last wrote to you (Dean’s letter 
dated March 29, 2004).  During this period of time, we have continued our 
efforts in planning educational reform, promoting English for 
internationalization（國際化）, and facilitating faculty development including 
establishment of new leadership (e.g., Associated Deans, Chairs, Program 
Directors, etc.).
 
“Doing is far more important than saying”（行勝於言）.  In the Department 
of Internal Medicine, we have formally standardized the weekly bedside 
teaching in cardiovascular medicine.  A case presentation is presented 
(in English) by an intern under the supervision of a resident, and during 
the presentation, interrogative discussion is conducted by an attending 
physician.  All the documents pertaining to the case presentation are then 
compiled for future references (e.g., teaching and publication).  
The aim of the case presentation is to guide residents, interns, as well as 
medical students on how to use logical thinking for sequential analysis, to 
perform physical examination, to read ECG, chest X rays and laboratory data, 
and to apply evidence-based medicine including its pitfalls for reaching 
the diagnosis and for planning
