I heard that job market in Taiwan is tough recently. But it seems to me
that all of you did find jobs. That is good news. For those of you
who are in the military services. (Some of you are still in there, isn't it?),
I recommend that you take a different perspective on this experience.
Yes, you probably will be better off by not serving in the military.
But in my case, it was actually the most precious experience I had.
The military experience totally changed my personality and the way
I treated people. I think if I did not serve in the army, I probably will
still be an arrogant bastard. Not knowing how to respect other people.
In the army being a university graduate is nothing. You have to survive
by all means. It forces you to look at yourself and think about
what is important in life. Well, I served my time in Kim-Men Island.
Two years of strolling the rugged terrain and dealing with soldier
patients certainly changed me a lot. I will never forget the darkness,
the quietness, and the loneliness there. What I am trying to say is
that you should not complain about the situation. Because it is not going
to help you, and it probably will cost you something if you just despair
or keep complaining. What you should do, if possible, is to try to get
something out of the current situation. Say you are in a lousy hospital.
All the staffs are jerks. The physiatrists just suck. What are you going
to do? Just go along with it? Well, I tend to observe everyone and think
if I am in their situation, what will I have done to make a difference?
There is always some way to learn things from people around.
And make no mistakes, you should make some friends outside of the department!
